Stalking the Stacks with Library Lil * |
2002-12-04 I’d like to think that I have tons of funny stories all stored up waiting to be released. Instead I have one and it is kind of a pregnancy story so I uses I’ll lead off with that one then start rambling. So first because you can’t see me you need a little backstory. I look pregnant. I really do. Hugely pregnant. I wish I had a picture I could show you all, but I don’t have any digital pictures of me recently—except for halloween and you really can’t see my belly in that one. I’ve looked pregnant for weeks. So this student who I vaguely recognize walks up to me Monday after my ob appointment (I had my coat still on) and says—can I ask you a personal question. Well I just though oh here goes again, because there is another student who keeps stopping me in the halls (remember I have no idea if I’ve ever had another conversation with this woman) to ask me when I’m due, are they really twins, identical or what etc. So I say grudgingly—sure. She says to me: do you have a tampon I could have? I think I about died! I didn’t know what to say and soon all that came out of my mouth was I’m six months pregnant. It did end well, she was embarrassed, I asked if the bathroom machine was broken and she confessed she had no change, I gave her the money and thought that the $.50 had bought me a great story. I guess on now to the rambly stuff. We went home for Thanksgiving, and while present giving was awkward, everything else was great. Got to see all the nieces and nephews. The babies kicked for them too, so that was good. I love it that at this unborn age they can cooperate—so they start kicking and my mom feels and I say kick for grandma—and they do so funny. I am glad we decided not to go at Christmas, I don’t think I could stand the car ride. On the way back husband decided we needed about half-way (so Merilville In in case you are curious) to stop and majorly walk around. So we found a babies-r-us and proceeded to walk in and be awestruck. Oh my! First of all, I don’t think I have EVER seen so many pregnant ladies in one place. I know I’ve never seen that many double strollers in one place, or cribs, or changing tables. We did buy a double stroller—a great one on sale! So it was half price. I love it. Now I can cart the babies around by myself if I so desire. Well I can now, but I think when they get to be 10 pounds each a stroller will be mighty handy. I also noticed something else about the people there. All the other pregnant women were registering for gifts, and they held the scanners while their husbands or partners walked along side them, not with the stupid grin my husband has all the time but with a look of absolute horror. What’s that about? I think when we registered, husband never let me hold the scanner and he has never had the look on his face like I might kill him as soon as look at him. All these men did. Oh and we get another ultrasound. My dr wants to start seeing me every two weeks, And on the first appointment she wants an ultrasound. We start childbirth classes tomorrow and I’m due for my glucose test too. Everything is all happening at once, after not going to the ob for the whole month of November. The babies kick every single day now, and mostly other people can feel it. Such a cool thing. I’m so hungry though all the time, which I suppose would be good if I was hungry for say veggies or something. But no I am hungry for chocolate! Well I should stop rambling now and start trying to get the rest of my Christmas presents picked out. I can’t believe it is December.
