2007-12-09

While I do not think this will be my last entry for 2007, it might be close. Without going into too much detail, I'll say that I'll be spending a great deal of time (after Friday) celebrating with my extended family and since I have no laptop or wireless access and no desire to be totally rude, I will most likely be taking a 2 or 3 week hiatus from writing. But I will be back, so be patient and either add the feed or join the list. Also, I may post some short snippets on LJ as I don't feel pressure to write anything long there.

Anyway, I thought I'd dig up the resolutions I made last year and update how I did. And of course, either next entry or the first of 2008, I'll put up my resolutions for 2008.

1) Weight: Yes, I did lose some weight last year. In 2007 I'd like to get (and stay at) 130. This is about 8 pounds, which I think is doable.
Ok, perhaps it is doable, if you um pay closer attention to what you are eating. And actually, I haven't been. I have not gained any weight though, which I think is terrific. So, I still hover at 138, but you know that's just a number. I didn't write here that I wanted to start running again, but guess what--I started running in 2007 and while I'm on a break because of the cold weather--I'm working on a cold weather solution and should be back up and (ha) running soon. If not, we'll probably March 1 I'll start again--we'll see.

2) Books: I'd like to read 70 books next year. I've been keeping track of the books I've read every year since 1999! I think I can do this, depending on how much knitting I get done.
I think this is the year that's going to have an asterisk in it. I just recorded book #80 this morning, BUT not only was it a book I've read before (I do count re-reads), I read it back in June. What was it? Why Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, as I decided to read the whole series again. Still even if you don't want to count re-reads, or even re-reads in the same year, I'm over 70 and there are still almost 3 weeks to go.

3) knitting. I'd like to make hats and gloves to give away in 2007. Pop has a food pantry at his church and this year they gave out coats, scarves, hats and mittens to the families that needed warm clothing--particularly to the kids. Any leftovers, they donated to the school to hand out as needed. So, to be specific, I'd like to have at least 12 hats, and 12 pairs of mittens for pop to hand out next year.
Um... um Well, I made one set. I started another set. I decided I hated knitting mittens. So, rather than think of this as a failure--I'll just say that I learned something about myself and that might be just as valuable. Oh, And I'll probably gather up all the mittens that don't fit Amy and Emily and bring those for the food pantry.

4) My journal--I have horrible times saying, I'm going to post X amount, but I would like to in 2007, actually organize my diaryland archives. Diaryland doesn't auto archive for you, and I haven't done it in well over a year. I'd also like to back u my files, since I have from 2001-2004 not backed up anywhere--perhaps I shouldn't admit that. So ok, in 2007 I'm going to get everything archived and backed up.

I just finished archiving all the back entries. Yay me! I however, have not backed anything up. Can we call this half accomplished?

5) parenting. This is the most important, if I fail at the others, I really want to keep this one. I'm not going to yell or talk sarcastically to my kids. I have some serious anger problems sometimes, and when I get frustrated I start to yell. I've made a good start on this by taking a deep breath when I feel like screaming and consciously trying to lower the volume of my voice. I suppose the only exception to no yelling would be--if I need to get their attention fast to get them from danger--I'm going to yell for example things like LOOK OUT! instead of what I find myself yelling--GET OVER HERE!
Again, not entirely successful, but I do think I'm doing better. I've cut the sarcasm out entirely. I still yell, I still lose my temper, but I'm really trying.

6) Go to my high school class reunion (20th eeep!) and try to have fun.
I went, I suppose it was fun, in its own way. I don't think it changed my life like I sort of anticipated it would.

I must confess when I saw these I was really disappointed with myself. I had only done the books! But then, I archived all those entries--and I had started that earlier than today--and I thought about my parenting behavior and realized, that I am better. Plus, I think I might actually have close to 11 pairs of mittens that don't fit Amy and Emily that I could donate, even if I didn't make them. Plus, the running is nothing to sneeze at. I went from barely making the 30 seconds prescribed in the couch to 5k program to actually running in 2 5ks--both of which I finished in the middle of my age group. Go me! So, I'm counting this as a win. Yay 2007--bring on 2008!
