Only in the age of social networks would you find an anonymous online journal entry detailing the perils of what the author can't say on facebook due to how "public" it is. Now, I know the Internet is public, so is this journal, but with facebook I KNOW my mom and boss are reading. AND my name is associated with it so you could attribute everything to me. I would find it an amazing coincidence if any of my high school or college friends were reading this especially if they had been reading for years. All that buildup to say here are some things I have wished I could express over on facebook.

I was friended yesterday by the sister of a boy that I "dated" in junior high. The boy gave me head lice and tried to rape me--I was 12. Then called and repeatedly threatened suicide when we "broke-up."(which was really me running out of the house--walking home with my best friend's boyfriend and refusing to talk to this boy in person.) I feel like I'm being really junior high when I say that I'm having reservations friending this woman. I mean we're 40, the brother isn't listed in her friends, and he might actually be dead or in jail for all I know. So I actually thought that I should send her a message that says:
Dear Robin, I'm not sure I want to friend you, your brother Jim was a first class jerk. Is he in prison yet? Do you still have contact with him? Thanks for thinking of me! Hope you've had a good life.
Yes, I'm sure that will make me popular.

Because both my mom and boss watch my facebook "status" updates in addition to people (some men) whom I have a passing acquaintance with, I've had a few times I haven't been able to express what I'm REALLY feeling-- so here's a small sample, in facebookesque language:

Library-Lil is having the worst PMS ever and is mad at the world
Library-Lil wishes her co-workers would get a F!@#$% clue
Library-Lil wonders why on earth her MIL thinks I'll scar the children by taking off the training wheels
Library-Lil doesn't want to work anymore
Library-Lil needs a stiff drink (at noon on a workday)
Library-Lil thinks running might be like sex
Library-Lil thinks you all suck!

I know there were more, but I think you get the picture. I'm feeling grumpy about work, which is constantly threatening cuts cuts and more cuts (like every job I'm sure). We're working on a few projects which aren't going well, and people are grumpy. On the plus side, I have shed myself of my night shift. Which means that there won't be a day in the week were I miss the girls ALL day (since I had to be at work at 3:30 and they get out of school at 3:35).
(HA! I have facebook open in another window and the "marketing" ad says it knows that I'm the president--because I've listed my job as CEO of the family)

In non-facebook news, I've stopped worrying about the teacher thing. I can't control it and it was making me crazy, so I let it go. I won't find out until August 31 and I'd like to enjoy the rest of my summer. Plus, the girls don't care. I think my last residual worry was that they'd have no friends in their class, but really they make friends so easily that I think no matter who they get put with they'll each have a friend by the end of the first day. Plus, they met some girls at the park who were friends in kindergarten and haven't been in the same class since, and are still friends going into the 3rd grade. I'll just keep repeating my mantra: it will work out.
