Stalking the Stacks with Library Lil

I had planned an entry today that told cute stories about my children--who really are terribly cute even as they age out of baby cuteness, but then they were so horrible and whiney and just evil (mostly to each other because that's how we roll here) and then I got stung by a plant! Almost 2 hours ago I was weeding the container garden and something BIT me and it turned out to be a stinging nettle plant and it still hurts. I am such a wimp. I have put benadryl on it, but it is my right index finger so that means I use it well a lot.

Today is also MIL's 70th birthday. I'm all happy that she's still doing as well as she is at 70, and hope it continues for many more years (and probably will, she's the youngest of her sisters and all the living ones are doing great). But still I'm worried about her--70 just feels OLD to me. Her sister who is deceased was 75 and went really quick due to some weird illness, and MIL's mother lived to be 97--they come from hearty stock. I just worry. I'm making a peach crisp for dessert but we kind of fell down on the present thing.

The girls, thankfully have been in science camp all week which has saved them from countless time outs and probably from learning a whole new set of swear words because OMG have they been just whiney. I never know what will set them off an any given day. Today I bought them each a treat when we went out to get MIL's birthday card (I'm a loser), and after eating hers, Emily asked for some of mine. I said--no, this is mine you had yours. (hers was a chocolate carmel covered pretzel--a big one and mine was a chocolate covered dried cherry) She flew into a rage because I am selfish and mean. This capped off a day when Amy was upset because while we were at a garage sale a woman looked at her bike (parked next to the sale) and when I say upset, I mean she cried abut it for 1/2 hour--Event hough I told her I would not have sold her bike for less than a new bike would cost. and then told her I was joking and would not have let anyone take her bike in any way shape or form, hell she can ride it when she's 20 if she wants to. Must be something in the air though because the neighbors grandchild had to be physically removed from our yard this afternoon SCREAMING over something that turned out to be Amy and Emily couldn't come over. This about 5 minutes before the plant got me.

But now the house is quiet for another hour. I should get off the computer and read or something.
