Stalking the Stacks with Library Lil * |
2009-07-06 So June just when pfffft right past me. But I did want to write about it all so that at least I might have a small record of what happened.First, the girls had bunches of stuff for the end of the school year. I went a little crazy because I discovered in the last weeks of school that nearly everyone I knew was requesting a specific first grade teacher. I think that combined with the whole idea that my babies will be spending all day at school in just a few short months just threw me for a big loop. But somehow we managed to deal with the cancelled field trip, the class play, and kindergarten graduation pretty well. Both girls want to go to school all year long, and honestly at half days, I could see it. Early in June I ran in what has become an annual ritual for me, the first 5K I ever ran. This year I had probably my best race ever. Not necessarily time wise, although at 30:26 who is complaining, but just mental wise. You see this year I ran *my* race. Instead of 3 miles that start fast and get progressively and noticeably slower, I ran an even and consistent pace. I didn't worry about the people passing me, even if they were fatter or older or people I thought I *should* beat. I just ran my race. And whoa nelly. I was tired at the end and I think I gave it my all, but I felt good. Also, I only felt the need to walk about a quarter mile from the end, so that's good. This summer I'm going to try to increase my milage, so that I have some oomph at the end. Of course it is easier to increase your milage if you don't go on vacation and not run for two weeks. We went on our annual trek to the St. louis area and while we walked a lot, I didn't break out the running gear. What's funny is that there was a 5k in the town next to my mom's and I would have considered running it, if the temp hadn't been 90 at race time (10am). We did have a lot of fun this year, and added the science center to our usual zoo/ magic house combo. The local museum that I joined is a reciprocal member so it was basically free. I couldn't believe how hot it was on our trip, and how wimpy I felt When I was growing up in central Illinois it would regularly break 100 degrees, stay in the 90s for weeks at at time and we only had a tiny window unit air conditioner that my mom never let us run. Yet somehow the temp hits 85 and I melt these days. Probably the most dramatic thing was that on our 19th wedding anniversary we received no cards by mail, but husband received a supeneoa. Turns out the guy who rear ended him this winter is fighting his ticket. Because the court date was during our vacation, we were a little worried, but it has been rescheduled for later this week. Still it is a gigantic pain in the ass and what is the argument for rear ending someone anyway? You can't just say I shouldn't have gotten the ticket because he should have been going. or I shouldn't have gotten a ticket because I didn't hit him that hard. I mean he was stopped at a red light! And even if the light had turned green you don't "tap" someone's bumper to get them to go--you don't run into them because they *should* be going in your opinion. I wasn't there, so I have no idea if husband's light had turned green or what this kid's argument will be but man am I ever annoyed. Let's see what else happened? Oh I got another cavity which sucks. The girls had their first fight over a boy, which also sucks. And scared me too because 6 year olds fighting over a boy is just odd--but 16 year olds! Let's just say I hoped we nipped this in the bud. |
