Since it is March, astute readers might remember that we (and by we I do me we--the ladies AND I) had our birthday this past Saturday. I was turning a number with a 0 on the end--ok I'm not afraid--I turned 40. The girls were also marking a milestone of their own--going from the one handed age to a two handed age (6). I wasn't especially looking forward to turning the big four Oh but as my mom says--the more birthday you have the longer you live.

We decided to throw the girls a party--and decided to hold it at some venue that was *not* our house. After doing a little research, we found a place that would do a theater class for us and then let us have cake. etc afterwards. We invited some friends of ours and ten all the girl in Kindergarten--we ended up with 10 girls plus Amy and Emily. And I ended up learning that if we can avoid that many children next year--that would be better. I thought, with the dramatic tendencies of girls at that age (well any age really) that a theater party would be FUN! I didn't count on one girl who would get so wound up that she would take a stick used for dress up play and WHACK people with it. So much so that I had to use my Mom tone to get her to stop (watch supernanny sometime--I got right in the girl's face, lowered my voice and told her exactly what was going to happen and exactly the consequence for misbehavior was going to be). next time, I will bring a list of phone numbers in case I need to call parents.
I also missed the candles which pisses me off more every time I think about it. We had one girl get REALLY dramatic and cry and they did the candles while I was trying to get her to stop crying. Husband said--let her cry it wasn't her party. So I have no pictures of Amy and Emily blowing out candles. And I'm kicking myself because as soon as the singing started, I should have shot out of there and taken a picture. Instead I assumed the man would. Trust me, she still would have been crying had I left or not. And trust me, I'm not mad at the kid--although I was not happy--but more mad at myself.

But that wasn't the only dramatic thing of the party. After cake and presents and stuff, the ladies were all horsing around (quite literally riding one of the teenagers that helped out) and Emily knocked a loose tooth out. It went flying across the room, made her mouth bleed and really could have caused a riot. As with many things that I expect to throw them off, it didn't faze her a bit. She calmly came up to me and asked if her mouth was bleeding and had she lost a tooth. yes, and yes. She didn't think she swallowed it, but eh she knew the tooth fairy will take a note signed by your mom. Later, when we were doing our final clean-up run through, Amy found the tooth on the floor. Everyone was happy--even Amy who got to be he hero of the day. This actually makes 7 teeth lost by each of them--tell me this will stop soon.

You might think--well Lil, that's great the girls had a party, but what about you--this was your birthday too--and a big one! Well, I had birthday week and some great surprises. First and best surprise was that Wednesday as I was baking the first batch of cookies--trying to get them in before kids yoga and wondering when I would do the rest before Friday, my MIL pulls up (oh great what NOW I think) and my MOM pops out of the car! You could have knocked me over with a feather! My mom it seems had planned (with my husband's help) to fly up on Wed and fly back on Sunday. Now, my mom--she just doesn't do these things. We had a great visit and I cried when I dropped her back at the airport on Saturday. She took me shopping on Thursday and I have a great new outfit. She took the ladies shopping after school on Thursday which was more fun than I had expected. She even helped volunteer at the school on Friday and believe it or not made that go more smoothly. I was so happy, it was the best present. husband is taking me to dinner tonight (fancy place) and had gotten me a gift certificate to Knit picks because he knows I want to buy some sweater yarn.

We also got Shamrock shakes on Wednesday for dinner. I should write another entry just on my shamrock shake angst this year. I know you'd all enjoy it.
