One of my husband's "big things" is that he's sure the internet is full of creepy people. People who will stalk you and hassle you and just be generally weird to you. And you know, I'm sure that there are creeepy people who pretend to be people they aren't that hassle you and stalk you and all sorts of bad stuff, but for the last eight years that I've been here online, I've never had hate mail, never had a stalker, never even had an argument with someone online. Really the closest thing to "creepy" I ever got was an e-mail when I was pregant that sort of implied that I was making it all up (by a person whose journal I was reading who WAS making it all up). That is until this week. And it wasn't even in regards to my journal! See, this weekend, I decided after running on Sunday morning and having my shin feel progressively worse that I needed to do something about the sorry state of my running shoes. They are a year old, have been through many miles and darn it--I just deserved new ones. I had been thinking about it for a while and had already obsessed about it for a bit, and had done some research. I determined that I'm pretty normal in my demands. I have a normal arch and according to my wear patterns on my old shoes, don't seem to really pronate a lot. I did decide I needed a little extra cushioning because I am getting some shin pain when I run on sidewalks. Then I went to a few places and looked. Then Sunday afternoon, I went and tried on two pairs, ran around the store a bit (the ladies LOVED that) and decided to buy a pair of asics gels. Well, they look all shiny and new, especially compared with my old new balance shoes, that of course I took pictures and posted them on flickr. Well, within a day I had a person flickr mail me to say--don't throw away your old shoes--send them to me! It isn't all that creepy, she runs some charity shop, but it was weird. Because seriously--I could find someplace around here that does the same sort of recycling of shoes. But realistically, my new balance shoes are my new chasing after the ladies shoes. They aren't going anywhere. (Plus, if you've seen my sewing room, you know I rarely throw anything away).
